PUCK

The framework from where the work of PUCK emerged is called ”Hidden potentials”(HP). It has its origin in the concept of deforming an object/body by partly or fully hiding it. Hiding reshapes what we perceive and within this potential I have looked for altering and molding one” human-like” body into other ”bodies”. HP is working with hiding the logics and limbs to make a more abstract form or to visually give the impression of another body structure.

Together with Luca Tomaselli, who embodies PUCK, we developed a physical research based on the potential of reshaping and characterizing his body. We worked with a huge T-shirt that Luca could enter in many different ways in order to mold his body into new figures. The T-shirt worked to hide the ”structure” of his body, so from outside the body would change into another body, reinterpret the body or remind of something not so human.

The name of the piece is inspired by William Shakespeares ”A midsummer nights dream” from where we have withdrawn the character called Puck, from whom we also re-worked some characteristics. One of the most important characteristics from his Puck we came to work with was the notion of shapeshifting.

I also collaborated with the artist and composer Ida Blomdahl that developed a sound character of PUCK, based on interpretations of Shakespeares Puck. She developed a version were she assembled and recorded all the sounds from scratch and then made it into different melodies and sections, just like we shifted shapes with help of the T-shirt physically, in order to make different aspects (characters) on the same base. It became a striking version which both stands as a character for itself, but it is also played along with the embodied version of Puck as an extension or complementation of the piece.
